The Department of Labor and the Internal Revenue Service mandates that all eligible employees be notified of their right to participate in your company's retirement plan. They must be given written information about the plan and must complete and sign an enrollment form indicating whether or not they will be participating in the plan.

Remember, Employer Contributions must be made by the due date of your corporate tax returns on extension to be tax deductible.

The Department of Labor (DOL) is taking a very firm position that employee 401(k) salary deferrals and employee loan repayments must be transferred from the Employer to the Plan’s Investment Trust as soon as administratively feasible. The DOL has said that their definition of "as soon as administratively feasible" is the same day that the Employer makes payment of an employee’s payroll.

 



Paul Carmichael, ERPA, QKA, President
Paul has been with our firm since December 1998. He has an MBA in Finance and General Management from Dowling College and a BA from the State University College at Oneonta. Paul has the Qualified 401(k) Administrator (QKA) designation from the American Society of Pension Professionals & Actuaries (ASPPA). In addition, he has obtained the Enrolled Retirement Plan Agent (ERPA) designation to represent clients in front of the IRS and demonstrates a comprehensive knowledge of pension rules and issues. He is in charge of the marketing of our services and is also involved with the designs of our clients’ plans.

Matthew J. Phillips, EA, MSPA, CEO
Matt started with United in June of 1998 after having worked in the field since December of 1995. He has a BS in Actuarial Mathematics from the University of Michigan. He attained his Enrolled Actuary designation in 2008, and is also a member of ASPPA. Matt administers a large number of plans, including both defined contribution and defined benefit plans. He is also involved in plan design proposal work for prospective clients.

Joseph Cibirka, ERPA, COO
Joe has worked in the retirement plan field since 1995 and has been with our firm since February 1998. He earned a BA in Mathematics at SUNY Stony Brook. Joe is involved in the marketing of our services for new business as well as the administration of our client's retirement plans.

Trish Battaglia, Manager of Operations
Trish has worked in the employee benefits field since 1980. She came to United in 1991 and specializes in working with our clients who have 401(k) Plan investments with the Nationwide Best of America program. Trish also works with financial professionals utilizing the Nationwide program as well as many other investment programs.

Jeffrey Ruyle, ERPA, QPA, Senior Account Executive
Jeff has worked in the retirement plan field since November of 2002 and has been with our firm since August of 2005. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology at Pennsylvania State University. Jason Evert, ERPA, Senior Account Executive

Jason rejoined our firm in June of 2007 after working for UB Pensions from December of 2003 through July of 2006.  He has been in this field since 2001.  He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from SUNY Oneonta in Business Economics.  As an Account Executive, Jason is the administrator for many of our retirement plans.  He is also involved in plan design proposal work for prospective clients.

Claudia Burnett, Account Executive
Claudia joined our company in 1998. She is a graduate of New York Institute of Technology where she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration and a Masters of Science Degree in Human Resources Management. As an Account Executive, Claudia is the administrator for many of our retirement plans.

Rose Arbucci, Distribution Coordinator
Rose processes all participant distributions for our clients plans. These include employee termination distributions, loans and hardship distributions except for clients with assets at Nationwide. Rose has been working in the qualified plan field since 1998.

Maria Almonte, Assistant Account Executive
Maria joined our company in December of 2003 after many years in other business ventures. She has Associates Degrees in Business Administration from SUNY Farmingdale, and Paralegal Studies from CW Post.  Maria provides assistance to all the Account Executives in the administration of their plans.  Maria also processes distributions for our Nationwide and Mass Mutual clients.  These include employee termination distributions, loans and hardship distributions

Patrick J. Deegan, President (1950 - 2017)
Pat Deegan is the President of United Benefit Pensions Inc. and he now acts in the capacity of Chief Executive Officer and Chief Financial Officer.  Pat opened our satellite office in Stuart, Florida in 2011 to handle all financial operations while we continue our main operations of compliance services, administration services and marketing efforts through our Melville, New York location.
